James Skay

Pre-Licensed Social Worker

Pronouns: He/Him/His

Location: Denver, CO

I see patients virtually and in-person!

See me in-person at one of our Capitol Hill office.

Therapy helps build new opportunities for joy. With care and patience, we will explore your unique situation and uncover inherent strengths to improve your well-being. I focus on creating a supportive and caring environment where you can step outside your story to see the emotional narratives that shape it. Reaching out for support to write new chapters takes courage – I’m glad that you have found your way here.

Clients have told me that I am caring and compassionate, and that I aim to understand. Through learning and listening, my goal is to walk alongside you on the path to healing. Struggle takes many forms, and while I focus on trauma, grief, anxiety and depression, I am willing to help anyone who may benefit from what I can offer.

I use a combination of non-directive, CBT, DBT and narrative therapies, as well as mindfulness and psychoeducation, and believe that the best approach is flexibility. We are all an unfolding process, and as progress is made and goals evolve, so should the approach. I will continually tailor our work together to best meet your needs.

I may not always have immediate availability. If so, we’ll respond right away with some alternative therapists specialized to your needs!

James has years of prior experience in community mental health, including working at various nonprofits providing direct services. Some of his work includes supporting people with housing needs, working through trauma, and career transitions. He is also a trained death doula.
