Who I Work With

My Approach to Therapy

Knowing yourself is one of life’s greatest gifts. But sometimes, hard things happen. Old stories can hold you back. They can make you feel like you don’t deserve. This doesn’t mean you’re broken, it just means you’re human.

In therapy, we’ll explore the experiences that have shaped you, formed your beliefs, and created your emotions. Together, we’ll discover your unique path to the life you hope for. Side-by-side, we’ll discover solutions to problems that have been around a long time, or for circumstances beyond your control.

As your counselor, I create a warm and safe space where you can express yourself fully. There’s no judgement here. My approach is one of openness and curiosity, about you. I want you to feel truly seen, accepted, and sometimes a little challenged. I want to help you become equipped to move with confidence towards your life’s next chapter.

Our sessions will involve a blend of person-centered approaches like Emotion-focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Gestalt therapy. We’ll use Behavioral approaches like Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment, and Cognitive Therapy. Most of all, we’ll build a foundation of self-regard that empowers you to make lasting changes.

I’m trauma-informed and versed in anxiety, depression, PTSD, and grief. I bring six decades of life experience, with all its ups and downs. I look forward to the privilege of working with you.

Rick began his journey towards counseling as a certified leadership coach, founding his practice in 2018. He also has a 30-year career as an entrepreneur and corporate director. In between, he’s been a crisis-line volunteer, youth mentor and community college faculty.

A little more about me…
I was raised in a middle-class family in the deep south and moved to Colorado when I was twenty-one. It’s been my home ever since. I love backpacking, reading about psychology and hanging out with my dog Findlay. For a long time I was an ultra-distance trail runner. Now I’m focused on working towards my next belt in Muay Thai.
