My Approach to Therapy
At its best, therapy is a space for intense self-discovery and exciting exploration. As a therapist, I’ll help you see the parts of you (your strengths, your challenges, your patterns) that have been invisible to you until now. After successful therapy, it should feel like you are seeing yourself clearly for the first time.
One of those things that is often invisible to people is their sense of their own life’s story. “We tell ourselves stories in order to live,” wrote Joan Didion, and it’s true that your sense of your story is one of the deepest ways in which your life is meaningful – or can become meaningful. Sometimes we are trapped in toxic, untrue, or incomplete stories that we have believed for too long, but rewriting or retelling your own story, collaboratively, is one of the most exciting paths therapy can take.
I particularly enjoy working with clients struggling with anxiety, anger, trauma, or who are confronting difficult life transitions or challenges like parenthood, infertility, aging, or loss. It is often true that the things we struggle with most lead us to encounters with our deepest values, and I am inspired by the way in which struggle can be transformed into strength and groundedness through careful, sensitive work. I use a combination of CBT, ACT, psychoeducation, and narrative therapy, but always tailor my approach carefully to every client and their particular struggles and strengths.
