Online Therapy

Counselors at Better Life Therapy offer both online and in-person sessions. To learn more about our popular video therapy option, read on below.

What if my therapist made house calls?

Are you considering therapy for the first time? Perhaps you’ve been to therapy before, but it’s been a while. Either way, you may have noticed that the experience is much more flexible than it used to be!

While plenty of therapists still provide the tried-and-true in-person experience (including Better Life therapists), today you’re just as likely to find that your counselor offers Virtual Therapy.

Telehealth… on TV

If you’ve ever watched Frasier, you might remember how he offered therapy and advice—not just to his patients, but to thousands of radio listeners — right over the phone. Callers reached out from wherever they happened to be: at work, in the car, at home, or even from a payphone. Frasier seemed to understand that life can be messy, and that getting in a car to drive to a therapist’s office isn’t always practical. He embraced the technology of his time to meet people where they were — often, in the comfort of their own homes.

The telehealth experience has come a long way since then. Better Life Therapy can connect to your smartphone or computer to offer professional, face-to-face therapy completely over video. No battling traffic, awkward waiting rooms, or shower required. Just you, a cup of coffee, and your kitchen table.

Online Therapy Makes Meeting Your Therapist Easy

Why would I want to go virtual?

There are plenty of reasons to choose video! Here are just a few:

  • No cars, busses, or traffic. All of that time spent driving to therapy is yours again.
  • Access to therapy in rural or difficult locations. Prior to telehealth, your choice of therapist was limited to whomever worked nearby. Now, whether you live in the heart of Denver or the edges of the eastern plains, you have plenty of options.
  • Weather. Don’t let a little bit of snow get in the way of your therapy session. Brew some hot cocoa, light a fire, and turn your living room into the coziest therapy space in town.
  • Individuals with disabilities. We know how difficult even small trips can be for some of our patients. Instead, let us come to you — virtually.
  • Childcare. Having trouble finding someone to watch the kids while you drive to therapy? Virtual counseling gives you the freedom to start a session knowing your family is safe at home with you.
  • Living with a mental health disorder. Often, the very thing therapy is meant to treat can be the greatest obstacle to reaching that treatment. Let us make a “house call” instead while you’re comfortable at home.

How Online Therapy Works

Do I need to be tech-savvy to get video counseling?

Don’t worry, Better Life Therapy makes makes it easy. There’s no app to download, and no settings to tweak. Simply click the link we send you by text or email and your web browser will take it from there. Logging in to your therapy session is no more difficult than visiting a web page. We know that technology isn’t perfect though, so if things aren’t quite working, your therapist can offer some assistance over the phone.

Is video therapy secure? Can I trust that my connection is private?

Better Life Therapy is held to the same HIPAA privacy standards as any other health care provider.

Our video software is engineered to meet all patient privacy regulations, keeping our conversations with you secure every step of the way. Trust us, we take this stuff really seriously (even if others don’t).

The Research

Does remote therapy even work?

While most counselors only started offering video therapy when the pandemic hit in 2020, there’s no question that it’s here to stay. The proportion of mental health visits conducted over video has only increased since May of 2020.

Why has it stuck around? One reason, among others, is that many therapy patients actually prefer it.

We’ve also learned that therapy is just as effective when provided virtually, according to multiple studies comparing virtual therapy to in-person therapy (like this one, and this one). And what do clinicians say? A recent survey found a 96% approval rate among psychologists.
